In April 2010 ACF launched SHIFT ; a new social enterprise that has directly developed from what was initially a response to the need for summer activities for children & young people.
Residents, children and young people had indicated to ACF the lack of affordable play opportunities and activities over the school holidays as a concern.
Our fundraiser worked with residents and community groups to develop a series of proposals, bids and grant applications to enable five playschemes to take place on five different w3 estates for the last three years. As well as providing much needed fun for over 300 Acton youngsters the playschemes also create part-time employment for over 30 local residents and volunteer opportunities for local young people.
We have now taken this Project one step further and are providing NVQ training in Childcare & Playwork to 15 participants and have established a social enterprise in partnership with Southall Community Alliance that has successfully begun to place them in further work with other local play providers who need experienced and qualified staff.
Negotiations are also progressing quickly with other interested organisations from Ealing and from neighbouring Boroughs who are keen to support the development of this model as well as being able to access our pool of staff on a regular basis.
As from the autumn the organisation will also be active in the field of Health & Social Care and will look to engage with the personalisation agenda.
