South Acton Latest News:
Community Capacity Builders project
- ACF began the project back in April, which involves working with community and statutory groups within the borough of Ealing in helping their service users get online, explaining the benefits and how life can be easier online.
- Project is targeting those who have never been online before or who have very limited access to the internet: target groups include- the elderly, socially excluded, English as a second language, unemployed.
- ACF currently has 15 partner organisations including CAIA, Southall Community Alliance, West London Somali Luncheon.
- Part of the project includes recruiting 50 digital champions who will be trained in IT mentoring and then go back into their communities and help residents get online
- First Digital Champion Training session took place 21 June with 15 people attending. Great success. 1 DC is now assisting with 2 weekly beginners internet sessions at the Oaktree Community Centre, 2 DC’s are running 1:1 drop-in sessions at the Oaktree, another is attending an outreach session on Tuesday afternoon’s at St Mary’s Church hall- helping people who attend get online, set up an email account etc.
- The second training session will take place soon, so if you have IT skills and would like to inspire ,encourage and support friends, family and your community to “get connected” by assisting with IT classes, running your own internet session, attending events, then contact Lavonne.
IT at the Oaktree
- Oaktree is a registered UK Online learning Centre and runs free IT classes at the community centre: 5 weekly basic IT classes Monday and Thursday 10-12 and 1-3pm and Friday 10-12pm. Very successful. To join contact Omar/Lavonne on 02089937793.
- Oaktree recently took part in Spring Online and ran 4 IT taster sessions, explaining the benefits of life online and what information you can access:
- 16th May, 22 people attended- theme Social Networks and Communication: facebook, email, skype.
- 19th May-theme was accessing services online, including how to pay council tax, finding a GP, registering for the library etc. 26 people attended, with 14 new users and 4 digital Champions.
- 20th May and was entitled “ The Internet is Fun”, Topics included shopping online, internet banking, booking travel, online newspapers, ebay 15 people attended, with 2 new users and 4 digital champions.
South Acton is a vibrant estate with a rich cultural mix, including large African Caribbean, African-largely Somali, Afghani and Eastern European communities. Over 21% of its residents are refugees, 28% are under 15 and 21% are over 55years of age. South Acton, fortunately, is home to a wide variety of projects, activities and organisations that provide an eclectic range of services to meet the needs of this diverse Community.
About The Oaktree Community Centre
The Oaktree Community Centre lies at the heart of the Estate and provides a communications hub for the residents, a place they can come for information, meet people and participate in classes and activities.
The South Acton Network- a group set up to tackle and progress local issues prevalent on the estate- also encourages the effective flow of information between residents, local groups and service providers, so groups and local people alike are kept abreast of what’s happening in their neighbourhood.
A variety of events to raise awareness of what services are available and to celebrate the diversity that is South Acton regularly take place, with local people being instrumental in the organisation. The South Acton Party for All is a regular feature and takes place each year in the Summer months, sponsored by Catalyst and Acton Community Forum and organised by a group of residents.

E-Bulletin by Ealing Council's Planning Policy Team Welcome to the latest 2026 e-bulletin produced by Ealing Council's
Planning Policy Team. This e-bulletin aims to inform you about the
progress towards delivering the Local Development Framework (LDF) for
Ealing. We plan to produce regular updates so that you can keep up to
date and provide helpful information to raise awareness and
understanding of the LDF.
This bulletin includes information on two consultations which are now
underway:
1. Consultation on the West London Waste Plan which closes on Friday
25th March 2011
Publication of “The Proposed Sites and Policies” consultation
document and associated reports. Any comments must be received by Friday
25th March 2011.
2. Consultation on the Draft Acton Town Hall and Surroundings
Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) which closes on Friday 25th March
2011

be received by Friday 25th March 2011.

1. West London Waste Plan
Ealing alongside five other West London boroughs (Brent, Harrow,
Hillingdon, Hounslow and Richmond) have joined together to produce a
‘West London Waste Plan’ (WLWP) to plan for the management of
waste in the region. Covering a 15 year period up to 2026, the WLWP
actively plans for municipal and commercial and industrial waste
arisings, satisfying the waste apportionment targets established in the
London Plan. Forming part of the folder of LDF documents that the
Council are currently preparing, the WLWP aims to identify and safeguard
sufficient sites for waste management facilities in the area.
Consultation on the next draft of the waste plan commenced on Wednesday
9th February and will close on Friday 25th March 2011. “The Proposed
Sites and Policies” consultation document and associated reports are
available to download from the project website (
www.wlwp.net). Copies
are also available in local libraries and Perceval House. Local people
will also get the chance to find out more and give their views at a
series of consultation events which will be held throughout March in
each of the six boroughs.
A drop-in session has been organised in Acton at the Priory Community
Centre, on Tuesday 8th March (Acton Lane, W3 8NY - 1:00-8:00pm), where
you can learn more about the plan and register your views.
Resident groups in the North Acton/Park Royal area have also organised
their own meeting on Wednesday 2nd March (7-9pm) at Inco Europe Ltd -

2. Draft Acton Town Hall and Surroundings Supplementary Planning
Document (SPD)
The Acton Town Hall site comprises a collection of civic and community
buildings. Ealing Council recognises that many of the Victorian and
Edwardian buildings on the site are deteriorating and that they no
longer meet the needs of all their users. The maintenance costs of the
buildings are significant and many are under-occupied. The Town Hall
itself is under-occupied by some 50%. Investment and change is
therefore needed to provide better facilities and to help regenerate the
wider Town Centre. The historic nature of the buildings also means that
physical change through any redevelopment proposals needs to be handled
very carefully.
The Council has therefore prepared this Draft SPD to:
● Confirm the Council’s commitment and promote the site as a
development opportunity to the property development industry;
● Guide future development proposals through an agreed vision and
related development objectives (which relate to design, transport, and
environmental matters); and
● Clarify town planning policy aspects and how they relate to the
sites development.
You will be able to view a copy of the Draft SPD and find out how to
make any representations at:

will need to be returned before this date in order for the comments to
be taken into account.
An exhibition stand will be displayed in Acton Library during the

A drop-in session will also be held on 8th March from 1pm - 8pm at the
Priory Community Centre, Acton Lane W3 8NY where you can speak to
Planning Policy Officers.

South Acton Party For All
The Oaktree Centre held the South Acton Party for All on the 11th of September and as always the event was a huge success, with residents turning up to enjoy the Carribean food, music and dancing. There was a variety of activities held in and around the Oaktree Centre all led by residents and ACF volunteers and staff.
